City Adventures Magazine
Exploring Los Angeles
Creating City Adventures
Creating the City Adventures magazine was an exciting project that I completed as my final project in my Media Design course at Texas State University.
This magazine project allowed for me to blend my creativity with technical proficiency. Using Adobe Illustrator, I designed a visually captivating layout that showcases LA’s vibrant landmarks. Key techniques involved using my skills in Photoshop and Indesign to create and ensure to meet essential design standards necessary for a successful print magazine. I learned to meticulously manipulate the text and images to enhance clarity and ensure for the reader to have a harmonized experience with the overall magazine design.
Magazine Features
Text Wrap + Photoshop
Working on the magazine in Adobe Illustrator, I learned how to manipulate the text to be in a consistent font, how to organize the text into columns, and learned how to wrap the text around images.
With Photoshop, I learned how to resize the images to a resolution fit for print, how to adjust the lighting and set the images into a CMYK color setting, and learned how to creatively crop the images into different shapes.
Color Manipulation
Along with learning how to cut and adjust image resolution within my magazine, I wanted to explore other ways I can creatively implement my photoshop skills into the magazine.
Using Photoshop, I learned how to transform an image in color into a grayscale image, and then how to layer a portion of the image in color onto the grayscale image. I did this to not only practice my Photoshop skills, but to also creatively emphasize the content in color and it’s important significance against the gray scale.
Featured Article
I chose for the article to highlight the movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, which came out around the time I created this magazine. I chose this article in relation my magazine’s LA topic, and to how this movie showed viewers how LA looked like in the past.
